I've been learning the NYC subway system. Yes, you read that right. For the last 20 years I've been driving to and from the city... in my car ... because I was too scared to get on a subway train and end up lost somewhere like the Bronx. Jen tried to help me last year and I kind of got it, but not really.
They have an app for this now which makes my experiment so much easier. I type in where I want to go, the app tells me what train to take. Easy, peasy.
When Kiki was in town, I found my way to her by using my app. And last weekend when Susannah was visiting, I took the bus in and subway'd it downtown to the East Village where she was staying.
It was so nice to catch up after Squam by the Sea. That weekend was tough to navigate with so many energies buzzing like freaking light tasers. We had a quick Skype in between, but I love being with her in person, one on one. Girl is fun to hang with, but a little dangerous to shop with. We enable each others "I must have it, NOW" perfume & candle fetishes.
The highlights:
A painful but very funny moment when I walked (or smacked) into a steel pole thingy. The point of impact was so loud, I heard people around me gasp. I saw stars for a second, checked myself out in a mirror, and kept it moving.
Shopping. Errrmagerrrrd... the shopping.
Walking a long time to get to our lunch spot but we couldn't find it so we went somewhere else and had a delicious meal.
She totally helped me see that my approach in some areas are way off and that sometimes, I over complicate the simplest things. Eye opener.
She thinks I'm pretty. I think she's pretty. We both refuse to own up to our prettiness. Ha! (Totes NOT fishing for compliments, I just thought that was funny!!)
Can't wait till she visits again. I have to bring her to NJ for some tax free shopping!!
She had to go, and I had to get back before dinner. Until we meet again, sweet thing.
Next weekend, I subway to Queens to visit with my Dottie. That will be an adventure and a half. Goodnight peeps.

Delightful...
I'm glad you're ok from hitting the metal thingy...Ouch!
Oh, I think you're both pretty!

Great post! My first year in the city I would be scared to death that I'd end up in somewhere way outside of Manhattan. But it didn't take long to take the approach of - well it'll be an adventure! Now I love the subway and so miss it when I'm away. BTW, I will be in the city April and May so please let me know if you happen to be in with a little free time! Would love to hook up. Glad you are ok with your pole encounter...now I'm off to read all about Jen!
